2012 Philly RAW Artist Awards at G Lounge - Fashion, Fun & Frolic

This week I was busy, out of town, getting no sleep, writing columns for my other outlets, working with lots of clients, tweeting too much and watching gossip girls from season 1 to current.  Thank you so much for a fantastic, super dooper week, even though I was tardy every day. Next week I will catch up.

Last night the RAW Artist Awards were held at G lounge in Philadelphia. I've covered this monthly event several times on PCC, as each show or exhibition is new and exciting. Raw Artist is a national organization, every last Thursday in Cities across the nation they put on a show celebrating art and it's creative industries like fashion, art, music, make up and hair. It's a 18+ ; 21 to drink.  Fashionable attire kinda night & did I mention fun?  $15.00 online, $20.00 at the door. For those people who say they can never meet anyone, well let your hair down and come to one of these events. They're laid back, non-pretentious and from all walks of life.

Maria Papadakis is co-host of this monthly event, along with Frederick Calalang who is the City Director for RAW of the Philadelphia Raw Artists. Visiting from NYC and acting as a the fashion judge Joy Adaeze Style Blogger for joylovesfashion.com, Fashion Stylist, former ESSENCE.com style blogger, Visionary, Vintage Fanatic Instagram: joy_adaeze.

Also on hand last night was Mariel Rojo, she competted in the RAWards 2011 Fashion Designer of the Year last year, and brought it home to Philly!!! with Joseph Balestra

It was crowded.

Raw Artist is growing in popularity, so much so that in 2013 it will be held at Lit at 2nd and Spring Garden every last Thursday of the night. I'm so bummed as it was an easy stop off for me on my nightly excursions, but I will make it a destination because it really is one of those unique events that Philadelphian's celebrate. It's open to the public so check it out. The last show at G Lounge is 12/13/12

Mr Williams my cab driver singing a song. He told me that he knows everyone that works the door at my building and unfortunately one of them was there at 130AM and interrupted his song. He gave me his number so he can pick me up next time.

Maria Papadakis and Brendan Kent Wedding of the Decade - The Final Photos

I have a few more pixs that I love that I want to share with you from Philadelphia's sweethearts Wedding of the Century says Eddie Bruce from CTO Artists

This past weekend my best friend Maria Papadakis got married. Her wedding was as beautiful as she is, with all the elements little girls put in their hope chest to be open on their wedding day, including prince charming, her husband Brendan Kent.

If the Papadakis name rings a bell it's because Maria Papadakis’ father, Dr. Constantine “Taki” Papadakis was President of Drexel University for 13 years. Under his guidance Drexel University was transformed into a first rate "total University". He changed people, brought ideas to life, and improved everything he touched. Where ever I go with Maria people tell her how much Taki meant to them.

Dan Reinherz and KYW1060's Hadas Kuznits. They're baby's on the way and due 2/14/13. Secretly they want it on 2/15, wouldn't that be fun?
President John Fry of Drexel University. It was just in the news that he wants to build a high speed train from Center City to the campus.

Lisa Gaudio, Jimmy Kazanjian. and Carol Tamburino At one point in the evening Eddie Bruce sang Can't Take My Eyes off You originally sung by Frankie Valli and The 4 Seasons. It was written by Bob Gaudio, Lisa's dad. I attended Lisa and Jimmy's wedding a few years ago, where I Frankie Valli danced with Lisa to that song. It was surreal.
Howard Benson, music producer of X-Factor, as well as Kelly Clarkson, Maria,
Lisa DeBella and WMGK's John DeBella. On Tuesday 11/20 from 6a-9a, it's the 11th Annual John DeBella Turkey Drop for City Team Philadelphia, an organization that feeds the less fortunate in the Philadelphia region. John will broadcast live at Love Park (16th & JFK in Center City) where he'll be accepting donations. November also marks John's 30th year in radio. Congrats buddy!!

The man on the right came all the way from Japan to be at the wedding. He was a foreign exchange student and met Mrs Papadakis' over 45 years ago while they attended school

Katie English of Katie English PR. One of her clients The Philly Pops just announced Tuesday at a press conference with Mayor Nutter, that conductor Michael Krajewski will be the new Music Director Designate for the 35th season of the Philly Pops next year, after Peter Nero retires.

Rachel Moore and John Paz. Speaking of great ways to meet a guy. Rachel was room mates with Maria a few years back, and John lived in the same building. They met at one of the buildings socials and the rest they say is history. You just never know where love will find you.
Andrew Rosenthal. Andrew introduced me to Maria a few years back. He said we should know each other, we'd like each other and always have fun. He was right.  I'll always be grateful.

The Eddie Bruce Band. I've been a long time fan of Eddie Bruce's music; whether he's playing at an event, or doing a cabaret show I try and catch him when I can. I was with Maria and Brendan when they went to listen to him last year at the Union League's Fall Gala. They booked him a few days later. (Ironically their wedding fell on the same day as this years Fall Gala)
WOW on that cake, which was delicious by the way. The bride and groom played it safe and no cake was wasted on the face in the feeding of the new spouses. The caterer for the evening was Garces Catering who recently took over as the in house caterer for the Kimmel Center, which over sees the Academy of Music. The food was delicious. For the cocktail hour there was shrimp and the most delicious lamp chops. For dinner it was steak and sea bass. Dessert red velvet wedding cake and chocolates.

Going to the chapel: sister of the groom, Katie Kent, Pat Fay from LA (funny guy), groom: Brendan Kent and Grigorios Papadourakis.
If he lived in Philly, I'd want to be Pat Fay's friend. He's wild and funny and needs his life in print
Here is an excellent article by Maria Papadakis in Philly.com We're both contributing to the site now, sometimes covering events together. Her column is a real behind the scenes of the wedding.

Brian Kappra of Evantine Design, created the beautiful atmosphere. Under Karen Homers's direction he executed the decor of the room, from linen's to place settings and floral arrangements. To the orange draping of the room. The Garces' Catering team was amazing to watch, like watching an Olympic Synchronised Swimming they served a 4 course meal for 550 guests. Before the wedding party was introduced to the guests, we were sequestered backstage where I got this photo of the 1st course salad plates. The beats were on the plate waiting for the salad to be placed.
