Both women are from the Philadelphia area. Who doesn’t have fond memories of a delicious cupcake snack after school? Well the cupcake has grown up and it is now part of a unique happy hour pairing being offered at the Lounge at 10 Arts at the Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia.
Beginning March 20, 2009 – the first day of spring – 10 Arts will offer cupcakes and champagne as part of their VERY happy hour. Sommelier David Weiss and 10 Arts Pastry Chef Monica Glass have paired their talents to offer Philly’s happiest happy hour! “There are many wonderful champagnes that will compliment and enhance the flavors of the cupcakes we will offer,” Weiss explained adding “Of course guests can always go the traditional route and have coffee, tea or even a glass of milk with this culinary confection!” Glass said she always had a penchant for baking cupcakes, “Cupcakes and muffins were always my favorite things to bake as a child. I remember I spent many years of my childhood on the quest for the perfect chocolate cupcake recipe. Though I love experimenting 20 with new flavors and combinations, I'm partial to yellow butter cake and a rich chocolate frosting,” she admits. (I'm partial to the yellow butter cake too)
Also happening on this day was a visit from a class from The Restaurant School, posing with Pastry Chef Monica Glass, Chef Eric Ripert and Chef Jennifer Carroll.
Jennifer gives them a behind the scenes tour of the kitchen. I was excited that I could go along to. The kitchen is beautiful, clean and lots of dinners were being prepared that evening. Fun to watch the action.
Later stayed and enjoyed dinner, as I had eaten in the lounge before. The food was so delicious. There were a couple of salads on the menu, I had the house salad at $12 (apps $10 - $14), which was a meal by itself, but forced myself onto the Trout, which I had heard many of my friends rave about. DELICIOUS and reasonable at $26. Most entrees range from $26 - $34. There is also a menu for the lounge and prices range from $8 to $16 with a fish slider at $19. Of course I love the fish sliders. You really have to try them.
