PHILADELPHIA CHILDREN'S TOY DRIVE DVLF & CHOP 12/5/08

Remember earlier this month when I didn't give you enough time to visit the
Marketplace Design Center, well another chance is coming up next week and you can help out a good cause too. I received this email earlier this week:

I am one of the volunteer producers of a Public Service Announcement for the TOY EVENT....

It's a 1 minute PSA for the Delaware Valley Legacy Fund & Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's TOY event. FYI : TOY is a fundraising event that collects toys for the children in CHOP's HIV/AIDS unit and raises money for the DVLF - two great causes! Before last year - these brave children in the HIV/AIDS unit were overlooked COMPLETELY by other toy drives. They didn't even get coal. DVLF and CHOP teamed up to create an event to ensure that those kids DO have a good holiday. This year, we are all determined to make them have a bettter one.

We made this PSA with a voluteer crew of actors, directors, camera people, and production people - straight, gay, bi, black, white, Hispanic, you name it.... Kelly Burkhardt, of TLA and PIGLFF, assembled an incredible team who did all of it for nothing. They were wonderful....We even had KIDS who signed up after seeing how their siblings were affected by last year's efforts. The one young girl (Dari - the oldest in the final scenes) remembers how much it changes a very terrible week when volunteers brought gifts to her ill brother - AND HER AND HER SISTER. She and her mother took time out of their day to drive an hour and a half from DE to be part of the shoot. For no money...and to suffer throw me running around screaming "QUITE ON THE SET!" (well, not really - i was the producer not the director)

The event is Dec 5th - we'd love to have you there....and we want it to grow into THE LGBT & STRAIGHT ALLIED EVENT of the Christmas season!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU, I am really grateful for your visit

I'm thankful for you my readers.

I grew up reading the "social" columns, the "What's Happening" section, the "Neighborhood" articles, I always loved reading the Welcomat, The City Paper, The Suburban and I wanted to create something on a similar level. SO in July 2007, I created Philly Chit Chat. My goal was to cover the social scene, book signings, write about people, but mostly to promote Philly, especially charity organizations here and on a national level;
My blog is based on 2 specific blogs in NYC that I read while I was living there on a paralegal assignment (actually I had read The New York Social Diary even b4 I moved there.) These were the launching pads for my first blog Confessions of a Paparazzi, a behind the scenes look at the red carpet.

SO when I returned to Philly I wanted to capture the social events in my hometown, and Philly Chit Chat was born.

So number ONE I am thankful to you, all my readers, I really, really apreciate you stopping by; I also want to spotlight two of my longest readers, as they came over from my other blog Confessions of a Paparazzi, and now read PCC - Lisa from KC and Alex Rodriguez who loves nyc during the holidays. I just met Alex (with her mom) in person last Sept while I covered Fashion Week in NYC. She came up and said "Are you Philly Chit Chat?"
I want to thank Philebrity, Uwishunu, Foobooz, WHYY, NBC10, Geekadelphia, PhillySpeak, phillyist.com, Phawker, Will Do , The Clog, Kannon on Wired 96.5, Valerie Knight, Michael Klein, Dan Gross, Philly Style Magazine, The Metro, Christopher Gabello , Where Magazine and Laura Burkhardt, The Beat 100.3, Team Derek, folks who give me tips on celebrity photo ops, and anyone else who gave Philly Chit Chat a shout out or featured a story on their blog. Thanks!
Thanks to the PR Firms that invite me to events, who give me ideas, who mentor me, who trust me and who have become my friends.
Thanks to the law firm where I work for being so flexible, so I can be so flexible and create PCC.
Thanks to my friends who I only get to see on Facebook, and for the new friends I've met this past year who I photograph a few times a month. And the ones who I keep promising we'll get together, or I will do a better job at the PCC Calendar.

I am always Thankful for my family, for their support and not complaining too much that I look tired and I don't visit them anymore. (Ray, Marg, Judy (sitting), Janine, Me, Mom (sitting) and Tracy)

and Crista (here with mom)
I'm thankful that Mike is on the road to recovery and allows me to have the freedom to create Philly Chit Chat even though it takes me away from us, but it makes me very happy especially when I can give PR to a charity or organization that does so many good things for its benefactors. (Mike with her mom at her 75th Bday 2 weeks ago.)

Out and About : Phila Celebrity Sightings

Damn that Dan Gross scooped me yesterday. I was going to write about this later in the week, but since I saw this in his column today here goes:
Actor Chazz Palminteri, Phillies hurler Kyle Kendrick and "Survivor" girlfriend Stephenie LaGrossa and Wired 96.5's G-N Kang caught DJ Vice spinning at Denim (1712 Walnut) Friday.

Actor Chazz Palminteri (ok I could have been less lazy and left the downstairs VIP area and asked him for a decent photo, but the place was packed)

Happy Birthday GN Kang - Unfortunately I had problems focusing in the dark club, otherwise this show would have been red hot sharp.

Kendrick, LaGrossa and Kang came by after a joint birthday party for the ladies at Gigi (319 Market), which LaGrossa co-owns. Here is Phillies hurler Kyle Kendrick and "Survivor" girlfriend Stephenie LaGrossa with your afternoon drive guy Kannon w/a K. You can listen to all your fave music and Dj's on the Internet: http://wired965.com/streamer/index.php
Vice stayed limber with shots of Patron in the DJ booth with promoter Brett Perloff throughout his set. Perloff, who recently parted ways with the Stein family at Pearl (1904 Chestnut), in which he was a partner, says he'll open a high-end boutique bottle-service bar in the Rittenhouse area next month.

Cheers!!He was mum on a name or exact location, since the joint is another bar now. (Really I know where it is, but PCC must be mum on it too)

I don't know if there was a shortage of women, or I haven't been at a club in awhile, but I never saw so many men dance with each other since I stopped by Woody's a few months ago. Maybe some guys are just in touch with their metrosexuality, but it's kinda nice:)

KOHN, SWIFT & GRAF HOLIDAY PARTY 2008

If Friday night wasn't a blow out enough, Saturday night was my law firm's Holiday Party at the Flyers Game.Joe Kohn greets the guests and introduces us to a three VIP Flyers of the golden age, Bob Kelly, Gary Dornhoffer and Bernie Parent. Joe Kohn of the Kohn, Swift & Graf. I couldn't ask for a more cool, boss who I really enjoy talking politics with and who supports my other life wholeheartedly. Here's the Swift of Kohn, Swift & Graf, Robert Swift with his wife Meredith. Robert Swift is a pioneer in human rights litigation and a Director of the firm.
The newest attorney Jared Solomon with the newest paralegal Jessica Hall on right and girlfriend on the left Ariana.
Missing the party Karen, Grayson, Megan, George, Bob L, Preston, Neil, Christine, and I can't believe I didn't get a photo of Jane and her family.

Rob & Dominic Petracci (The Kohn Firm gave us these great Flyer's hats)
Bernie Parent thrills the guests with stories of hockey greatness

KSG alumni Mike Boni, who left the firm last year to start his own. For many years he was the president of the Anti-Defamation League of Philadelphia, and I occasionally helped stuff envelopes. With him is his longtime secretary Denise Petracci, who I was glad stayed at the Kohn firm. Many of the employees at the Kohn firm have worked there 12+ years including me. We are definitely a family as we have watch each other grow, get married, divorce, weather tragedies and enjoy many happy occasions.

Joan Burt with L-R Mrs. Burt, Kathy and her brother Jimmy
Kim from Reliable our in house copy service, she's very reliable especially with those last minute jobs, with her is her sister

Tina Moukoulis, Esq. of Bernard Gross and Diane Werwinski, Berger & Montague paralegal work with me in NYC on the project I was assigned to for 18 months, and what is responsible for me starting my other career of celebrity/social/event/blogging photography. On the left is Tina's fiance who's name escapes me. I gave the pad a rest tonight and see what happens.I love that song by Beyonce "If I Were A Boy" and have now listened to it about 20 times writing this, but I also listened to "Don't Stop Believing", "Landslide" and "Silver Springs" too. I should go to bed. Did I mention Mike's in the hospital. Segways are not safe to ride in Paris on cobblestones. But I should say it is actually very sad as his recovery period for a shattard wrist is a year. He has to relearn to use his hand with a plate and pins that were inserted. So I am having trouble sleeping as I write this at 3AM.

Russ Henkin and his wife. Russ is an attorney at Berger & Montague in Philly. I worked there on a project between 1/2002 - 7/2004. It was a great gig as I worked in a room alone with 400 boxes and managed the case from inception to the depositions; I learned alot about managing cases from that experience. I also picked up the bad habit of talking to myself.

I have a standing invitation to the Berger Montague holiday party, unfortunately I can't make it this year, I have a celebrity event to shoot with Dr. Dre My friend Denise's niece won a ride on the Zamboni
so did her friend
Barbara Moyer our law clerk and her friend
A few more alumni including attorney Steve Asher and Marty D'Urso came by and enjoyed the party

Doug Abraham and family
I work mostly with Bill Hoese. He has a wicked "Cool Hand Luke" kinda humor, he jams to the best 60's, 70s rock, and has great stories of adventure. He really upgrade his Nikon F5 and take the plunge into digital, cause he has a great eye. At least 5 times a week he will call to me and say "Hugh do you have your camera with you." By this time you would think he would know I carry it everyday. With him is his son Billy who is a championship golfer and bowler from Cherry Hill East and is now attending college, and wife/novelist/Obama volunteer Kathleen Barrett.
Flyer's WIN!!!
People always ask me if I would give it up to pursue my other life, I don't think so, I can't imagine not going into work everyday to see these people I care about and who care about me. On the other hand if I won the lottery I would certainly visit a lot - LOLCheck out the photo album for photos to download: Photos

MIKE GOES TO PARIS FOR WORK, FALLS OFF SEGWAY, RETURNS TO ME WITH SHATTERED WRIST

People ask if I regret not going to Paris with Mike. No I would have died on that Segway, I am not coordinated at all and I'm certainly not in as great of shape as Mike is. I do regret not getting to see this with him (but look how much I covered last week, plus I should have some exciting news w/in 2 weeks, something that might not have happened if I had gone to Paris 11/14)

I've seen this at Washington Sq in NYCMike rode the Segway for 4.5 hrs before his accident, which happend on his last full day in Paris. He was going to go to the Louvre after the tour.

His tour guide was new and the police chased them out of the street sending them down a cobblestone path towards the sidewalk. Mike sped up as to not get stuck on one of the cobblestones; instead it threw him off. Instinctively he put out his hands shattering his left wrist. They wanted to operate in FR (and Mike said the healthcare service was awesome, pay as you go, and what you can afford), but Mike wanted to return to the states. We thought he would have surgery on Sunday after his plane touched down, but they waited for a spot to come available which occured finally on Monday at 5PM. Poor Mike didn't have a bite to eat from Saturday at 1PM until Monday at 9PM (Mike said he did a double Yom Kippur fast and can skip the next two years). He wanted croissants as he loved them in Fr, unfortunately he'd better not get attached to them as he must refrain from using his arm for at least 3 months, and it will take up to a year to heal. I get to bring him home today...

SABRINA TAMBURINO AND STEVE THORNE'S ENGAGEMENT PARTY - The Social Event of the Season a merging of love, laughter and Respect

FRIDAY NIGHT was a night of parties in the City, but there was no better party to be at then the Sabrina Tamburino Steve Thorne engagement party held at The Franklin Institute.

The guest list was the who's who in Philadelphia, whether you were a politician, a celebrity, business superstar or just an average Joe like me, it was one big exciting party. Having never been to a party at the Franklin (as it likes to be called now) I was curious how a venue as large as it is would translate into a festive party. Sure enough it was perfect for the 500+ guest list, with minimal decoration (meaning no streamers normally found at any of my parties), but beautifully decorated accents, tables with minimal flowers as to not interupt the flow of conversation, beautiful ice sculptures, glass bowls with marbles and orchids, and most importantlymood lighting. In the early evening as the crowds arrived, the lighting was a soft, yet bold blue, welcoming friends to the cocktail party where there were a lot of welcoming hugs, kisses, introductions and catching up. The Benjamin Franklin National Memorial features a 20 foot high marble statue, sculpted by James Earle Fraser. Originally opened in 1938, the Memorial was designed by architect John T. Windrim and modeled after the Pantheon in Rome. The Hall is 82 feet in length, width, and height. The domed ceiling is self-supporting and weighs 1600 tons. The floors, walls, columns, pilasters, and cornices are made of marbles imported from Portugal, Italy, and France.
Sabrina Strickland, Arthur Kadyshyes and his step-mom who he was very excited to see.
I have to confess, although I had my pad with me, I tried to get most names, but many people said they were family or friends, and as karma would have it at the height of my frenzy I left it with a someone in this group of people I had just photographed and it was never seen again. So some people are going to have to help me out, 'specially
The girl with the jet black hair, who is a big fan of PCC and said I've photographed her before but never put her up on PCC. I must have been crazy. I sure do come across a lot of readers of PCC and I truly, really appreciate you taking the time to read me. Steve, Joann, Bucci, Zarina, Michael & Sharon
Is this a crew or what friend, friend, Carol Tamburino, friend, Anna Verna, Frank DiCicco and a friend. I would appreciate ID's on these folks. Thanks.

Caution curves ahead

Nina, Nino, Carol and Mia Tinari. Vogue should have called these folks already for a spread.Vince Papale, Joe Weiss, Sharon Pinkenson, Janet Papale (I have a fun story about her. One day I asked the correct spelling of her name, she said it's Pap like smear, and Ale like beer. Ya gotta love that. ) Carol Tamburino and friends.

Sabrina engagement ring blinding guests, so don't get out of line around her or you could be next.

There's just no way this lady was not on American Bandstand. She's hot, she's got that sex appeal and later she really cut the rug.Among those celebrating the special occasion included Dana Spain and Anthony Chila who posed on the red carpet before entering the grand hall where Ben Franklin
but tonight instead of the bustling crowds on their way to checking out the many science exhibits that are featured in the museum they were kicking up their heels to the sounds of
the SoulCruisers. Who were just fantastic, and really got the crowd rockin' early.

And the mood turned to hot, mad classy red hot lighting.

A dipped Donna who does a mean azz dance. Behind her is The Admiral.
And it was getting hot in other parts of the building. Carol Tamburino made sure all the men met the dancers and benefited by their special touch:

The happy couple pose with Lauren O'Dorisio and John Colabelli
Who loves you Erin Elmore, I do and so does Dr Shareef Jandali
Christian DiCicco and Jimmy Contreras It's no wonder you two are friends, you kinda remind me of each other for some reason, but it's not your heart melting baby blues. (I completely missed the cakes as I didn't realize that it was between the columns in the main room. I did see a great photo
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake your booty, shake your booty
Michael David Smith, Jill Rizen, Sabrina Tamburino and Steve Thorne (My job was to shoot mostly candid's so this is one of the few photos I got of Steve and Sabrina)
For $8.95 you can pick up a life-sized and molded to closely resemble a human heart at the Reading Terminals Chocolate by Mueller
This group was looking very very chic and elegant as they sat on this bone fashioned into a bench.

A serious couple, looking seriously stylish Table 31's Lauren O'Dorisio and Philadelphia Style Magazine Publisher John Colabelli. These two are great, have an amazing connection and are really a hot item. Lauren, so nice, so cute, so going places because she's sincere.
Erin Elmore and Nina Tinari have something more in common then just good taste in style, their friends with single and newly elected State Senate Larry Farnese (If you saw his election flyer the photo used was one I took at the very beginning of his campaign, he looks mighty dapper with his white shirt and greenish tie.)
Bob Brady and James Kenny enjoy a laugh.
Brittany Welsh, Heather Walsh, Casey Marie Matula, Julie Thorne, Grandmom and Jen Hawkins, Remember girls it's ok to practice your Paris pose, especially in the mirror. I really can't stand it when I photograph women and they make me take a photo over and over again because they don't like their smile. Just like everything, it takes a dress rehearsal to get it right.

Oh this is one of my favorite photos, Robert Thorne totally pimp up. I have to tell you Carol T set this shot up, and she was so right. It came out perfectly.Jim Werner with two pretty girls on his arms Caroline Bean and Miss Laura Burkhardt
Nicole looking fabulous in her midnight blue, with Nina Tinari, friend and Donna Coghlin in rockin' red. Whether I shoot the red carpet in NYC, or here in Philly, black is always in style, but it takes a trail blazer to give us a little color. (while taking this photo and the one right before it, I heard I missed the Mummers, bummers!!) I probably should have asked her to stand for the full appreciation of that dress.
The National Italian American Political Action Committee members and Bob Brady

Nicole Cashman, Justin Wineburgh and Ben Franklin
As the evening began to wind down around 11:30PM, I headed over to the AP at Denin. Plus I heard that Chazz Palmerterri was there and thought maybe I'd get a shot before he hit me or something. You don't want to mess with a soprano
but then I heard the dancing at The Franklin continued with a DJ until another hour or two after I left. Wish I had stayed. Even though I took nearly 500 photos, there were still a few that got away
Sabrina Tamburino and Carol Tamburino

Above photo from Heather Walsh's Facebook, below Morgan Obidowski Jeff Guarcino with Sabrina Tamburino and thanks to Julie Thorne for this awesome shot of the cake, which unfortunately I didn't even see until it was cut open as it was in between the columns in the main room. I didn't even see the candy table next to it and was confused when I think Lauren was telling me how much she loved MaryJane's and I told her I loved Bullseyes)
